Oil temp sensor

Dear Scotty and community,

I have a Peugeot 106 1.4 xr (1993) that i had been working on and I am trying to install an oil temp sensor in the oil pan. (I have the gauge on my cluster but my pan doesn't have the sensor because it was a basic equipment model). I am searching online with the part's number and i find results for coolant sensors with the same number. Is there any chance I can buy another coolant sensor (the one that wires the cluster and not the ecu one) and mount it on my oil pan ?? All the dimensions look the same, just the name is not "oil temp" but "coolant temp sensor".

Thanks !

John

probably not. It depends on how the gauge is calibrated.

After a bit of driving the coolant and oil temp should be the same anyway.

Thanks for the reply ! I found in a nearby junkyard an oil temp sensor from a simillar model, but it looks a little bit different with 2 small pin-like things at the end where the sensor goes into the pan. I think I am going to try this one.

what for?

The oil sensor is shut... They tested it at the garage it keeps reading infinite resistance at all times. I guess I'll have to use the "coolant sensor" that I keep getting when searching with the OE part number. I just hope it uses the same range as the coolant, since I can't find the original sensor in s scrapyard for reference.
