Hi Scotty I got a 2001 GMC Sierra 6.6 turbo diesel. Long story on how I got the truck however I need to take it for an oil change and I’m not sure exactly which oil to put in it. Not sure if previous  owner put synthetic in. Does this vehicle need synthetic car has 220k Milrd

Try synthetic. If you notice you have some leaks at the seals, switch back to the conventional oil.

Check what the manufacturer recommends and make sure the oil you use meets those standards and you'll be OK. In general Chevron Delo and Shell Rotella are excellent diesel oils.

You can find owner's manuals on the GM website
