Should I buy this 35-year-old Nissan Sentra?

Hiya Scotty, I have been looking to get an older vehicle and save up to get a newer one sometime in the future. I currently have my eyes on a 1987-88 nissan sentra with a manual transmission and about 170k miles on the odometer. Seller wants 2k for it but for an extra 50$ he'll throw in a parts one very similar that is only missing a window and a quarter panel. During the test drive the engine and transmission gave no issues and shifted as well as idled smoothly. Only real issue I noticed was a hole in the muffler Id have to get patched because I dont like how it sounds. Is this a good deal or should I avoid it?

Well they were well made back in those days but as old as the hills. And there's no way with that mileage I'd pay that kind of money for that thing. It's pretty much ready for the scrap heap. Missing quarter panels holding them muffler. I'd offer them 900 bucks if you really want it

I would avoid it.

I wouldn’t. You know the poor thing is going to need a lot of help to stay in running and driving condition. Upkeep will be far more than it’s worth.
Nothing wrong with daily driving a classic, but I can think of a whole lot of other cars that age I’d rather put the effort into.
