Scotty,
I’m original owner of a 1999 Isuzu Amigo 3.2 ltr V6, auto trans, 80,000 miles. well maintained. I have a cheap scan tool that will clear engine evap codes but thinking of getting a better mid range tool that would show more data. Do the older cars pre - 2000 actually show more engine, systems & trans data with better scan tools? I’m worried I be wasting money on tool that still will only have basic functions like my cheap scan tool because the computer on old vehicle might not produce more data for better scan tools to read.
Thanks
basically the older the car, the less complex it will be.
Without knowing what your current scan tool is, or what data you hope to find, it's really hard to give an accurate answer. Being able to graph data is a big plus, of course, and any tool that gives live data will automatically be light years ahead of one that just clears codes. Not to mention you can use the tool for your future cars, or friends and family.
If you want to get an idea of what is possible, swing by an auto parts store and ask them to demo a tool on your car. Also see our scan tool buying guide in the FAQ for more info.
the cheap scan tool I have a PT Performance Tool W2976, $30, I will check out the recommended scanners in faq Thanks!
