Are they any good? They kind of look cool, to me.
Clarification: Which generation are you asking about?

I assume you mean the last gen, ‘94-‘99. They were pretty good, for a Buick. The 3.8L V6 was solid. Styling was good. The rest was OK.
The 60’s and 70’s Riv’s are classic. The 80’s are forgettable.

I don't think so. I guess as with popup headlights there might be some minor aerodynamic benefit and it may help keep the lights clean when not in use, but that's a bit of a stretch. It's mainly a cool styling gimmick.

I always liked the 71-73 boattails, especially the '73 version.
