We are interested to purchase a car for one of our kids as she finishes-up college. It needs to last maybe 15,000 miles and 3 years without major problems like a transmission. I am hesitant on anything because prices are crazy. The daughter is remote so I can't fix it myself and repair costs are also off-the-charts if you can find a good mechanic.
A friend has a car they are interested in selling and I would like the forum's opinions and experiences:
2012 Ford Fusion
140,000 miles
4 cyl/auto
4 dr/some rust (Wisconsin car)
Runs and drives well
Maintained per manual for the last 7 years
Problems, past experience, things to watch-out for, etc., appreciated.

Prone to power steering problems and transmission problems. Be sure to have a good mechanic give it a thorough inspection before purchase if you proceed.

We are going to jump in and buy the Fusion! Too good to pass-up!
I am sure we'll be able to keep you all posted on the new saga.

Did you review the information available at the link provided by @chucktobias? Power steering failure is far more dangerous and concerning than transmission problems. Especially where the safety and well-being of your daughter is concerned.
