I changed the oil in my 17 F150. It had a 2.7 ecoboost engine that holds six quarts of oil. After put the 6 new quarts in and filled jugs up with the old oil, I only had 5 quarts in my catch pan. Will the extra quart of oil in my engine ruin the seals before my next oil change?
The filter will hold at least part of that "extra" quart. (Presumably you changed the filter as well.) What does your oil dipstick say after running the engine so the new filter is filled?
I did change the filter. My dip stick has cross hatches that indicate the acceptable range of fullness. There is a indention just above those cross hatches that indicate the engine is over filled. The oil shows right at that indention. The engine holds 6 quarts of oil w/ filter. After I drained the old oil and changed the filter, I only got 5 quarts in the pan. Every other change I've done on my truck, I put 6 quarts in, I got 6 back out
You could always drain out just enough to bring the oil to the top of the normal range.
Get a Mighty Vac and suck the excess oil out of the diptsick tube.
