I have a 2011 G37 7Speed Auto. It overheats on idle or when I’m stopped at a light. Nothing leaks, fans turn on, there’s coolant.
the thing I’ve noticed is it overflows into the tank and drys up the engine. If I fill up back up it’s rarely overheats. Please help. Big fan
Could be a stuck thermostat. Also how often are you filling up the coolant? You may have a coolant leak somewhere. Are you checking the fluid level in the radiator (only when cold!! never take radiator cap off when engine is hot!!)?
It doesn’t lose coolant just transfers it out to the reservoir. The reservoir maxes out by a ton and engine has no coolant.
My heater core doesn’t work for some reason too.
- Your best bet would be pressure test the system when cold to remove the possibility of a head gasket though not common in the 3.7 as long as that’s good you should start with the thermostat
You need to go through and check ALL the components of the cooling system to find the fault. Radiator, cap, overflow hose and tank, fans (fan clutch if equipped) heater core, thermostat, etc. Hopefully, you'll find the problem sooner than later.
I went to a mechanic shop today and said I should fix the thermostat. There not sure what it is. I don’t have any leaks, the engine just empty’s it self out of coolant onto the tank. They pressure checked the radiator found no problems.
