Oxygen Sensor Extraction

Hi  Scotty:

I am replacing my oxygen sensors on my 2003 5.3L Chevy Suburban.  I cut off all the wire harnesses and now need to know what kind of damage I will cause if I idle my engine without the four sensors being connected???  Thank you! 😎

I’m assuming you cut off wires because you have difficulty getting an old O2 sensor out. Yes? If that’s a case, … just pour some brake fluid onto the threaded connection, let it soak for about 5 minutes, … than try to tighten it first a bit and then unthread it! Easy peasy!

Nothing, your engine runs fine, may be a bit rich and your catalytic converter may have some issues later on.

why would you cut the harness, when the sensors have connectors on them?

Anyway, without HO2 sensors, the engine won't be able to trim the air/fuel mixture, so the engine will run like crap. It won't hurt anything to run that way if you just need to make a trip to the parts store or something, but long term it will hurt fuel economy, kill the cat and probably other things too.
