Hi Scotty - I own a 2004 Mercedes Benz C230 Kompressor (don't laugh!) and all of a sudden the check engine light comes on and I'm smelling rich gasoline while the car is running plus it does a little stutter now and then while driving. Took it to Autozone and the trouble code came up P0171 - what does that mean exactly? What do I have to replace/repair on this car? Also, the dash says 1 malfunction regarding the safety restraint system...? All seatbelts are in working order, is that what it's referring to?. How do I reset or fix that issue? This car, while an overall good running car, is just not for me but I can't in good conscience, sell it without fixing these issues first. I mean, why in the world does this 4 cylinder car be a manual with 6 gears??
Thank you in advance - I love what you do and all the help you give people by sharing your knowledge.

Thank you Chuck I appreciate your input. I can do those things myself. However, if it IS the PCV valve - I'm having a heck of a time trying to find any place besides the Mercedes Benz dealership to buy it, much less locally. Any suggestions?
Thank you for your help MountainMamJoe
Rock Auto - PCV Valve
URO #2710180029 - $3.80
Vaico - #V301615 - $5.10
THANK YOU!!
With these cars lean condition usually is caused by a pcv, o2 sensor, vacuum leak or the intake manifold actuator and vacuum components that controls the flaps inside the manifold.
Much appreciated Nissanrob88
Just so you know if the vacuum line is damaged that goes from bottom of manifold to the vacuum assembly for the actuator for the flaps you cannot simply replace it. You can replace the actuator but not the vacuum line .You need to buy a new manifold. Mercedes messed up big time with that design. According to a friend at Mercedes 500,000 complaints about this part have be filed between 98 to 2010

I'm afraid I don't know much about those cars. My usual go-to for foreign car parts, eeuroparts.com, doesn't list one. I did find this which suggests the PCV system on that engine is pretty involved:
