[Solved] P0335 on 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara

Just got a BlueDriver in the mail today and decided to hook it up to my free vehicle. It’s a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara 4x4 with a 2.5L v6, 197,500 miles.
I got code P0335, which I see if crank position sensor circuit.
how likely is it the sensor?

Also, sometimes it just doesn’t start when I turn the key, about once every couple days. If I just keep cycling the key, it’ll start eventually. Sometimes it’s one cycle or up to five, anywhere in between. Not sure if it’s related, but I wanted to mention in case it was.

thanks for the help!

Sounds like most likely a crank sensor problem. Visually I would just check for oil leaks first and make sure the sensor or connector don’t have oil contamination

If there is oil on the sensor itself (I checked the connector, it’s very clean) would that cause the code? It’s currently dark outside, may have to wait until tomorrow to determine that

Depending on where the crank sensor lives on that engine(I’m having trouble picturing this in my head ) it’s been a while oil on the physical sensor where it reads could be normal I was just more worried about in the electrical portion wether in the harness or or where the pins are in the sensor. But an intermittent crank no start generally indicates more of an electronic concern like the sensor itself

Check to see if you're getting an RPM reading with a scan tool with engine running or cranking.

Would this be different than if I’m getting an RPM reading in my gauge cluster? The tachometer is working there

Most likely the tach works off the crank sensor but I'm not familiar with that car so do not know for certain.

Just went back out and I see that I am greeting a digital RPM reading from the scan tool, matches the tachometer. Not fluctuating, neither is the spark advance.

Just wanted to give an update to this thread. Got a new crankshaft position sensor installed today. Started up the engine and no check engine light. Also did a scan and no trouble codes.

thank you all for your help and guidance!
