Just really confused on what I should even start to look for got a P0340 on my 97 Corolla 1.6l crank no start pulled out to go get food and made it about 1500 ft after starting then walked back got my repair manual and worked on anything I could but there is no camshaft position sensor so idk what to look for I have not went into the distributor yet tho just need some advice before I do

Thanks everyone but it is a timing belt I walked back to it today and open the distributor and the rotor was not moving so took off the vavle cover and the belt had lots of play so I'm say that's the problem

@stephenfarler , thanks for coming back and letting us know what the problem was.

  • Well the sensor is built into the distributor on that old thing so often replacing the distributor either with the rebuilt unit or a new one will fix it
