P1456 erased, now car idles very low?

Hi guys!

My gfs 2000 Honda Civic has had the P1456 code for a while and today I decided to erase the code after searching that for the most part is an EVAP problem with the gas cap from what I've read. I did inspect it and the fuel entry itself and didn't see anything wrong so I put everything back, tighten the cap and erased the code to see if it'll go away or come back. Well, the code didn't come back but almost immediately when I went to clear the code the car started to idle VERY LOW almost killing itself at a stop, does it with A/C on AND off. It drives down the road fine just when idling it seems to be a problem, I'm trying to figure out what happened but I'm stumped. Anybody know what it could be?

Thanks in advance!

I can't see with tightening a gas cap has to do with anything unless your gas cap is broken and you got it so tight now it won't vent at all you might try a new gas cap to start. But I'm assuming that was a coincidence there's many reasons a car can idle low check for vacuum leaks because vacuum makes off and will cause that

Hi Scotty, I checked for vacuum leaks and didn't find any, I tried listening for it and even sprayed carb cleaner on the areas to see if the car would change in rpms and nothing. I drove it again and it still does it but not as often anymore. It'll still go down low, any other things for me to look out for?

There is a leak somewhere in the EVAP system.

That's what I'm saying but now I don't know how but it fixed itself up, doesn't do it anymore. Maybe after I erased the code the computer might of reset or relearned the EVAP system? I don't know.

You can't argue with success - congrats!!  But keep an eye on it.
