2002 Camry, MCV20R, 1mz-fe, 391766km, Manual Transmission..
Getting a fella to do my camry - a timing belt change.. parts alone is $689 for parts...
but i assumed that's OES, is a better idea to go with Aisin timing belt kit from amazon and pay $268AUD for the timing belt kit instead..
job excludes labor cost..
OR should i just fork for OES kit and also pay on top labor as well...
I had my timing belt and water pump replaced on my 2004 Avalon with the 1MZ-FE engine three years ago by a a local independent shop that specializes in Toyota repairs... in fact that's all they work on. They advocated the use of the Aisin brand kit but would have used OEM/OES if I had wanted. I am not sure where they purchased it but rockauto.com carries it and it is priced at about $160 USD. The kit includes the timing belt, water pump and gasket, hydraulic tensioner, and idler pulleys. It is part number TKT026. I have no idea of the shipping cost to you.
You may also consider replacing the cam seals and crank seal with Genuine Toyota ones as I did. Also replaced the thermostat with OEM (Aisin) and the drive belt (they used Bando). They also used OEM premixed radiator fluid and I elected to replace the radiator and hoses and Toyota radiator cap as well. I have had no issues with the Aisin kit. The shop service advisor said that Aisin is the only brand they use unless the customer requests genuine Toyota parts.
Anyhow, that is my experience with the timing belt replacement on the 1mz-fe and the Aisin brand.
so $689AUD is a good deal? for OES? 491.75USD for timing belt kit?
