Hi Scotty,
this is a great way to ask a question, my first
I have a petrol smell in my BMW e92 M3, only when I stop the car with a running engine, for a traffic light for instance
I checked for leaks, under the hood, under the car, nothing
I replaced both throttle bodies earlier, no signs of a leak while doing that
Do you have an idea?

Have you checked the fuel pump sending unit? Also where does the smell seem to be coming from engine compartment or inside the vehicle?

It might be as simple as checking/replacing the fuel cap. Pretty cheap to change.
