2004 pontaic vibe gt,pcm type is swappable no program needed....long story short ran perfectly fine, car wouldt crank over, battery was older and low, replaced then hit an d miss starting-thought starter, which it is not,we teseted grounds, all fuses, relays sensors, cluch safty switch even swapped pcm-finley narrowed down to when jumper wires used in the plug that ignition switch goes to starts and runs fine-get a new switch-no crank, cant be key lock we tried the screwdriver start method.diagram of pins for starte-2 for ign 1 and 2,1 for 12 volt,1 for keysense,1 for acessory,1 for starter-ther is nothing fancey added to car stock radio,no alarm ect...seems like starter not getting signal to start but it does with jumper wire so how can whole wire be bad?someone suggested bad alt voltage regulator-i dont know how that has anything to do with this..i really need help, the shops here are very few and i cant afford what they would charge and i dont trust them,i had bad experiences...my friend is really good, but is stumped on this too,we followed the electric diagram for the car.coincidently my starter was fine but now wont charge battery(it is old car has 225,000 miles, could have pooped out with all the testing we did draining the battery or coincidence)or my friend says it might be due to wired start vs proper ignition key start might send signal to alt to generate...please help,I just finished a battle with stage 4 cancer and really need my car to get around besides its a special car to me and i know it got to be a stupid simple fix,i would drive with a homemade jumper switch, but dont know if thats why the alt isnt charging battery if that signal to it is bypassed,,,

Well actually a short anywhere in the electrical system since it's all tied in together can cause loss of power there. But let's say it was the voltage regulator if you just unplug the alternator wiring entirely if the car starts you know that is the problem if it doesn't you know it's somewhere else. And really if you can bypass stuff and it works my advice just put a toggle switch in bypass a permanently
