Hi Scotty,
I have 2016 Lexus RX 350 with 36k miles. I just had an oil change and tire rotation four days ago and then the vehicle hasn't been driven since.
When I put it into reverse, I heard a relatively loud mechanical pop sound from the rear of the vehicle, once. I didn't see anything loose in the rear and this isn't a recurring sound.
Afterward, I don't feel anything strange with the way the car drives. Should I be concerned?
*The pop sound occurred after a cold start (vehicle hasn't been driven in several days).
Did you engage your handbrake when you parked it a few days ago? Was it raining then?
Yes, I did engage the handbrake a few days ago and it was raining quite hard then. I saw some rust spots on my brake rotors as well.
Sounds like the pop was your pads dislodging from being stuck to your rotors all this while. The rust spots are normal after driving in the rain. They’ll disappear on your next drive. Continue driving normally, I doubt you’ll have any further issues. I personally have a habit of not engaging the parking brake after driving in the rain, when I park on a flat surface. Because of the exact issue you just faced.
Thank you!!
No worries and let us know if you feel something still isn’t right or if the sound reappears. Happy new year!
