I have a 2007 silverado 4.8L 1500 LS. Milage 138,xxx . A day prior to my current issue I hit a deep pothole going about 20 to 25mph. I've inspected around the wheel that hit and nothing I can tell have damaged or crack. While driving the wheel still doesn't shake, or truck pull to left or right when I let go. No extra vibrations. I havent suspended the truck into the air to check tire for play. But like I said it drives the same. Today towards the 3rd time driving after the pothole the engine is whining. It does it while idling. And while I'm driving the higher RPMs the louder it gets. When popping the hood it definitely sounds like it coming from driver side front of engine on the serpentine belt. My belt is new. Checked my power steering fluid and it's almost all out of the reservoir. I tried looking for the leak but I cant jack up the whole front end and turn the wheel. I couldnt see a leak in just idle. Should I buy more fuild and put it in to see the leak. And/or add leak dye. Do you think it the power steering pump failing? Is it worth spending money to identify the problem or should I just take it straight to the shop.
Heck try to diagnose it remove the fan belts if the whining goes away you know it's something the filling belts drive then figure out which one by spinning them and checking for wobbling or noise
I would add dye to find out the power steering leak source. You might top off the fluid to see if the wing noise goes away, if it did, you know that the pump is good.
