Power Steering Fluid Top-off

Topic starter

I purchased a used 1994 Ford F150 and the power steering fluid is low and needs to be topped off.  I have read that you should not mix different types of fluids for your power steering system but I have no idea what type of fluid is in there now.  Is my understanding of not mixing fluids correct?  What should I do?  Also, there are many opinions of what type of fluid should / should not be used (PS fluid / ATF).  Any recommendations of what I should do and what type of fluid?

Probably it has in it whatever Ford specified at the time and that's what you'd want to use. This might be an opportune time to change the power steering fluid if it looks real nasty.

Search for where the fluid is coming from with UV fluorescent dye that's compatible with power steering fluid and fix that. Then, completely drain and refill the power steering fluid. https://youtu.be/A0fiZCHz5ew?si=FqcBQNexUAJX19zJ
