I have a 2003 honda accord LX V6 engine. The steering wheel sometimes gets really hard to turn left or turn right but not both at the same time. There is a loud whine when I start the car when the engine is cold. I think the power steering pump might be going out.
Hi usman123. Honda power steering systems are extremely sensitive. I find that they work best with Honda genuine power steering fluid. There is a small O-Ring that seals the input side of the power steering pump. Those O-Rings usually shrink over the years and let air into the power steering system. When air seeps in to the power steering system it may make a loud whine sound when the engine is running or when you turn the wheel you may also see air in the power steering reservoir or your steering may become hard. One possible solution is to change the O-Ring and while your at it you can change the high pressure O-Ring to make sure that there both in good shape. The O-Ring part number for your model is Honda (91345rdaa01). A power steering flush might also be a good Idea. I tried this on my 2000 Acura TL and the problem went away so I hope It works for you too. Best of luck!
