I just purchased a Vantrue N4 Pro dash cam and the Vantrue power adapter to power it using the OBD2 port.
Question: Can i do this or will it cause either damage or problems to my system?
Love your show and watch it daily.
Regards,
Jim
The OBDII port is not designed to have anything in it for more than a few minutes; it's for diagnosing, not running a camera. It's like those stupid insurance trackers that monitor your driving habits via the OBDII port. Use it at your own risk. You should be able to use the electronics from what used to be a cigarette lighter to power the camera instead of charging your phone. That is designed to insert stuff into and be taken out of, not your OBDII port.
Depending on how new your car is, there is usually more than one 12-volt socket outlet in the car. My 1999 Ranger has a cigarette lighter and a separate 12-volt socket for charging stuff.
