My mechanic recommended replacing the radiator, radiator cap, filler cap neck, and coolant hoses per preventative maintenance. It might be roughly $500 to do it. For a 14-year-old car, is this something I should work on? My overheating light has never turned on, thankfully.
I can see replacing the hoses and caps due to age but if the radiator is not leaking there is no reason to replace it.
Understood. I guess I fear that if there's any plastic on the radiator, would there be a concern about it cracking due to old age? I think that's what happened to my Civic eventually.
The radiator will fail eventually but if there's no cracking or leakage it's hard to see a reason to replace it now, though maybe there's some peace of mind in doing that.
