I tried to replace the radiator myself, my car is a manual so I leaked some of the oil when I unplugged the transmission cooling hose located at the bottom of the radiator, it was dark brown in color. Is this something to worry about and do I need to do anything extra when I install the radiator?

https://www.ma2auto.com/cooling_system-1088.html This is the Mazda repair manual for your car. I don't see where you have to disconnect anything related to the transmission.

Always post your odometer per the instructions please.

Yes. Transmission fluid should be red not brown. I guess it wasn't changed regularly. Not good for the life of it.

@imperator The link I shared doesn't have transmission fluid running through the radiator, though. I think OP might be referring to coolant and identifying it as transmission fluid?

This confuses the heck out of me, though. As far as I knew, manual transmissions are only splash lubricated. Am I missing something? I'm pretty confused about this. Haha.

Yup you’re right. I missed that he has a manual trans

@imperator I thought so. It appears his coolant is well past its expiration date. I've never seen dark brown coolant before.
