Hi Scotty,
i am looking for a daily commute vehicle, Prius Prime caught my attention, Currently in NorthEast there is a $5000 manufacturer discount + the Fed Tax incentive of $4500 + State tax incentive of $500, total savings = $10K.
Just wanted to check with you, if this discounts are worth, given the fact that Hybrids are costly to maintain + faster depreciating value.
What is your thought on this ?
thanks
J Thomas
They are usually trouble free up to 130-150k miles. After that you may have issues for the hybrid system (starting from battery, generator,...). So it is up to you if you really want to buy or not.
How long do you plan to keep it? If you are planning to keep it <10 years the Prius is the best hybrid out there. If you want long term reliability, you would be better off with a conventional gasoline car.
thank you Yaser, i guess Corolla or a Camry might be more reliable compared to prius prime ?
It doesn't have high resale value over time like the corolla or camry. You also have to redo the hybrid system very early in it's life too. In addition, they weight 3400 lbs. and still only makes 121 hp. I say go for 2021 camry se if you get discounts. because it is the best overall car.
