I am trying to import my Canadian 2010 Chev Equinox to the US. The federal government requires the car be fitted with tire pressure monitoring if it was a factory option. The car already has a TPMS dash warning light that flashes on startup, and it already has the necessary bluetooth option. Is it possible to reprogram the body control module to see the tire pressure sensors if I install the tire sensors? Thanks and Sincerely Rick K.
Per DOT it has to be factory TPMS. and from what you said, you're part way there. So reach out to your Chevy dealer and tell them what you're needing and why, and find out what it will take to enable the TPMS in your Equinox. It'll probably need 4 TPMS sensors installed, and the vehicle programmed to enable the system and be looking for the sensors, at the very least. And the invoice showing that factory TPMS is now installed in your vehicle.
My apologies that my question was not clear. The tire pressure sensors are installed. I was asking if the BCM can be programmed to see the TPM sensors. Further if it can be reprogrammed, can only the GM tech tool do it or can say a launch V431. I am in a remote area and because of covid, it would be easier to avoid the dealer. My current snap on scan tool is too old too update the BCM. So if it can be reprogrammed and say a Launch V431 or MaxiCom 808 would do it, it would save us a trip to the dealer. So I guess I am looking for someone to say "yes I have done this before". Thanks Rick K.
Well, I highly doubt that someone other than a dealer service dept. will have the real expensive system and access to GM servers to upgrade the BCM. It's not as simple as you think. I know all this because I know several people that have had to do this with other brands. I had to update the BCM in my '19 Camaro 2 yrs ago, and it took longer than normal because the link to the servers at GM Headquarters kept going down. Even is someone could, you'd have to show proof (Invoice) that it was done.
Thanks. Much appreciated. It would be good to know if someone has been able to reprogram the BCM to see the TPMS. We already have the TPM sensors installed so I guess we will give it a try .
