I performed a test today with a sample of E85 using one of those standardized testers. I put a gallon of E85 into a plastic gas can, and it is indeed 85% ethanol. Where would I dispose of the minute amount of gasoline in the E85 after I tested the sample? I'm going to empty the rest of the 1-gallon container into my truck.
I left the lid off of the test sample overnight, and the gasoline evaporated on its own. All that was left was basically a crude form of hand sanitizer. It smelled similar to that, actually. I just emptied it into a gravel pit next to my house. Problem solved.
I would just pour it out onto some dirt or gravel
If that small amount is not contaminated why not just put it into the fuel tank using a funnel?
@chucktobias The fuel is mixed with water now.
Probably your local fire department can advise you on how to dispose of bad fuel.
@chucktobias Good idea. There's actually a fire department around a mile down the road from me. I'll bring the sample with me.
They well just take it in to dispose of for you. Maybe give them a donation, especially if it's a volunteer fire department.
@chucktobias the fire department wasn't open for walk-in type stuff, unfortunately. This is the container: https://imgur.com/a/BBOGZ6c
It's quite small. I'll leave the container on the porch and try to evaporate it that way.
I thought of something. I'll pour the mixture into a little bit of litter when it comes time to change the cat litter. We have three cats.
