My 2016 Jeep Patriot makes a whining noise when I first accelerate at a stop sign or light or slowing down at a train track, and it loses power and doesn't want to go. Until I let up off the gas and try it again and then it goes but very very slowly it will get up to 35 - 40 mile an hour and comes out of it. So, ?????????? Can you help me?
Mileage? Transmission type?
Is it a case of your engine bogging down, or is your transmission slipping? Does your engine RPM increase while the vehicle tries (but fails) to accelerate, indicating the trans (or clutch if manual) is slipping? What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far?
@chucktobias it's a Automatic transmission 2016 Jeep Patriot Latitude 144,000 miles. Speedometer moves up but very slowly when accelerating then comes out of it after 35-40 mph.
What about engine RPM? Do you have a tachometer? Or, do you hear the engine racing when attempting to accelerate?
