- Considering buying 1986 Mercury Sable LS, 70k miles, automatic, from private party in excellent condition. Issues include soft brakes and transmission fluid leak, otherwise the car was kept in great condition all these years. Need guidance on this deal - what do you think is a fair price for a car of this magnitude?

It's so old and it does have problems I wouldn't offer more than 900 bucks for the car myself
Thanks, Scotty, it’s a tough decision for me given it would be my first car purchase. If I were to buy it the price we agreed upon is 1360$. In deep consideration.

First of all, a 35 year old car with 70,000 miles? C'mon man! They only came with a 5 digit odometer so it's probably more like 270,000 miles. Scotty is being generous at $900. I would ask the seller to pay me to take it away.
No lie, it was 70k…. The guy lives across the street from my grandmother and kept it in a garage most of its life!

It wasn't a good car in 1986. It is even worse today.
I wouldn't consider it myself.
