Hi Scotty. I have a quick question. I'm looking at getting an older corolla as a cheaper car for my partner. I'm thinking years 2003-2006 since I've heard the earlier models burn oil. There are lots around with 200,000 ks to 240,000 ks for a good price. My question is, at that age, do these cars have a lot of maintenance costs? I know this depends a lot on the history of the car, but as a general proposition will we be putting a lot of money in it to keep it going? We will only do 4000-6000 kilometres a year. Cheers, Cam.
Those were some of the most reliable cars ever built. If you are only doing 4,000-6,000 kms/year it should last you forever.
consider 2004-2008 if automatic because 2003 had auto transmission issues. The 2004 05 06 years were very reliable.
Actually it was the manual transmission that had issues. The automatic was bulletproof.
@billybob
yeah I checked and most complaints were from manual transmission and only some from autos. good catch!
Thank you both!! One other question - do the shocks on the car tend to last a long time? Again I imagine it is all dependent on use and care, but interested to know !
