Hi Scotty,
I have a few questions on the 2018 Toyota Highlander. Are the 8-Speed Automatic Transmissions any good? Also, is the 3.5L V6 24V PDI DOHC engine any good? Is there anything bad to look for in that car?
Please feel free to e-mail me back at warners@rochester.rr.com. Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
I've enjoyed watching your videos on You Tube. Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
John Warner
@jaw55 Welcome to the forum, and glad to have you. It is not recommended to include your personal information (e-mail) in your post - just FYI.
Even for a Toyota, a 2018 Highlander is a solid, reliable vehicle. Bulletproof and indestructible? No, but they none of us could afford such a car. If you dig down in this site, you can see problems found, recalls and TSBs to inform your search for a good used example.

Make sure that the latest software updates have been performed.
Toyota initially had some problems with the transmissions but after they got the kinks worked out around the 2018/2019 model years then it was fine. Like mentioned above, compared to the market this is a very solid reliable SUV.
If you are worried about the 8 speed, look into a previous model year with the 6 speed automatic.
