[Solved] Rattling Heat Shield on 2000 Toyota Echo

Hey Scotty.  I've got a 2000 Toyota Echo sedan with 83,000 miles.  The heat shield started rattling about 3 months ago.  I'm a lady in her late 50s, who tries to do some of my own car maintenance (oil changes, air filter, repair door locks, etc.) if I can, but I don't know what to do about this.  We moved to a small town before this happened and I've been told to just remove it, to get it replaced or to have it welded on.  A nice guy at a shop here took wire coat hangers and wrapped them around the shield and muffler, but not long after that it was rattling again.  The car is pretty rusty underneath so I don't know if I should spend a lot to have the shield replaced. This is my only car and I don't have a lot of money.  What do you recommend I do Scotty?  One more thing if I could ask Scotty.  I'm looking for an older Toyota Sienna ( 1998-2003), but most dealers or owners on the social media websites will not let me have the Sienna I'm inquiring about inspected at a shop.  My dad taught me to always do this, but every time I ask this it seems to turn off the potential seller or dealer.  I've been looking for months and I'm getting tired of this.  I just can't afford to make a mistake and buy a clunker so what advice do you have for the ladies out here, who are trying to buy a used vehicle and not get ripped off?  Thanks Scotty.

It would be great if you can please post a separate question regarding the Sienna pre purchase inspection. That will enable you to get more detailed answers regarding each topic.

if they won't let you inspect then they're hiding something.

Rattling heat shield is a very minor problems, and should be a super easy fix. I could probably do it in 5 minutes with a drill and pop rivet gun. Keep trying.

Yeah, I figured they were hiding something. Guess I'll just get a scanner like Scotty recommends and hope I don't see a lot of codes. Feels like the wild west out there trying to find a good used car today. Regarding the heat shield, can you recommend any good videos that can show me how to reattach it? I'm doing my best to learn how to do this stuff. I don't have a jack or ramps so it's hard to get underneath the car to do stuff. Thanks MMJoe
