Oil Question

Hey Guys,

I bought a 2021 Camaro 2SS 1LE with the 6.2 LT1 V8 Engine............. I got my car from a used car dealer out of state and it was sold as is… with only 5,300 miles on it. I flew out there and drove the car around and checked it out. I knew when buying it that I would be giving the car most likely it’s first oil change before driving it 500+ miles out to CA.

The only thing open at that time of evening was Valvoline and I like them for the most part. I’m not good at working on anything, even simple oil changes so I like their process because I’m around the car the entire time and can see what they are doing. They put in 10 qts of Valvoline 0W-40 Euro Synthetic Oil API SP. It is NOT a "Dexos 2 approved" oil, but I have been told it's a very high quality oil and SIMILAR to a Dexos 2 approved oil. Chevy wants my car to have Dexos Approved  "Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP"

My question to you is this, can someone that understands oil.... tell me if I'm putting in a suitable oil for my car... and is possible that it's even better oil for my car than Chevy is even suggesting to put into it? In my current situation, going to Valvoline and putting the same oil I have been putting in my car would be the best situation. I trust them, like the service I get, and I'm right there with them as they're doing the work. I don't like any local car dealers here and I'm horrible at even the simplest jobs so I don't want to change the oil myself.

I like my car a lot and only want to do what's best.

Thanks for your time and reading!

The oil they put in is fine as long as it matches the weight and rating the manufacture requires.  Doesn't matter who mad it.

The thing is, we'll never the true answer.

It's safest to use the oil that the manufacturer intended, and has tested for. The manual specifies Dexos 2, and I suspect your warranty conditions will require it too.

Also, I would strong advise AGAINST using these quick-lube shacks. They are monkeys with wrenches and slick sales pitches. I would never trust an expensive sports car to them. Find an honest mechanic and develop a relationship with them.
