Hi scotty, i have a 2020 rav4 22k miles, a message appeared on dashboard today thats says "engine maintenance required" never saw that before, it has pop up maintenance required for oil change, should i be concern and what does "engine maintenance required" means. Thank you.
According to google, the meaning of this ambiguous and ominous message is "in no way indicates any system malfunction; it is simply a mileage counter intended to remind the user that an oil change is necessary"
It's a shame they made their service reminder sound so sinister.
Toyota is probably hoping that if they only remind you in an unpleasant way when service is getting overdue that you will rush to a dealer.
I'm also assuming this because apparently resetting this reminder seems to be no easy feat.
On my Kia it calmly reminders me to "Service in 1,600 km" and on my Volvo about 1,000 km before service it just simply writes "Time For Regular Service" - a much better way to inform the owner that all he needs is to go in for an oil change.
(Assuming it's functioning properly) It's pretty much a maintenance reminder; newer cars check various maintenance items such as the oil life left for example and in your case it has detected that your oil life is low so you need to change your oil. When was the last time you changed the oil on it?
Have you done your oil changes at the required intervals?
It's light that will come on when the mile limit comes up. It's just a reminder light.
I just change the oil at 19k miles it only has 22k right now and when the oil needs changing it says maintenance required not engine maintenance required. I found that it might be the coolant bypass valve that is failing.
I just did a quick Google search; might be this:
