For the 2006-2012 model Rav4, is the 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder better. Is the four cylinder sluggish? Is the v6 more fun?
In 2009, they introduced the 2.5l 4 cyl. engine. It's better on fuel than the previous 2.4l and has been in the Rav4 for the last 10 years. I have an '09 with the 2.5L and has 180,000 miles on it. I've had no issues, and it does not burn any oil.
Is the 4 cylinder you have powerful and do you think the v6 would be a more fun engine?
Get out there and drive both. Only way to know what akes YOU happy. I drove both years ago when in the the car business and V6 much much quicker. But more thirsty
can tow more with the 6

For the 2010-2012, test drive them. I4 has enough power and is reliable. V6 would be faster but still reliable.
Get the V6 for 2006-2009 because they burned oil (friend has I4 burning oil at 60k miles)
I've driven a 2015 RAV4 4 cylinder regularly. It is by no mean sluggish. But it's also not a sports car. In another thread, I mentioned how I feel the RAV4 is sportier than the CRV.
I drive a Prius regularly. That is sluggish. The RAV4 4 cyl is not sluggish.
two more cylinder of power, two more cylinders of burning fuel
it only burns 2mpg more and gets 90hp more.
That's an additional $125 for every 100 miles your drive. That adds up.
I'd like to sneak in and add: V6 uses more mpg, but RAV4 V6 for that era is one of the best in class fuel economy if you have to get a V6 because you want the power, I'd go RAV4, but the 4 cylinder isn't sluggish is what most reviewers say, but I'd test drive it to see.
In terms of longevity, maintenance, repair, fuel savings the I4 will be better than the V6. That being said both engines can last hundreds of thousands of miles if well taken care of, just that the I4 can go a little more. Test drive both and see which you prefer.
Keep in mind the I4 from 06-08 is the 2az-fe which had faulty piston rings, prone to oil burning and engine failure. The trend continued into the 2.5 in the 09 model as well.
Really? I thought that was only for the 06-08 2.4's???
The 06-08 4 cylinder is the 2az-fe but the 2.5 2009 was the first year and also (but less significant) had that issue. 09 was a refresh and the first year. The more common issues are, accelerater pedal sticks, excessive oil consumption, and most common: paint peeling.

But again, not that significant, but ideally the newest model year possible. Or, I heard you were looking for it as your first car, get a sedan. SUVs are less safe and you could get a newer Corolla (2014-2017) for not that much more.
dude; i'm 6 foot 5; I don't think ill fit in a corolla.
