Rav4 vs Tucson

Hi Scotty,

I am deciding if I want to buy 2023 Rav4 Hybrid XEL or 2023 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid SEL Convenience. Tucson does come with few extras for about the same price tag but was wondering what you would recommend me to buy? My concern for Tucson is turno engine that can be trouble long term but they do have 100k miles warranty on engine and trans. On other hand I am worried about that corrossion that has been happening on the Rav4 cables that is around $6000 to fix if it happens on Hybrid models. I just wanted your opinion on what Your pick would be. Thanks in advance!

Toyota.  Not really a competition at all.  The Hyundai warranty is a joke.

You would be out of your mind to buy the Hyundai.  Definitely go for the Toyota:  they know hybrids the best with a 20+ year proven track record with that technology.

Realize that Hyundai's Hybrid powertrain for large vehicles is an attempt to scale the regular hybrid.

The clutch is going to wear, the engine lacks power, the motor can't really pull it, constant switching....

It is a DRY clutch dual clutch transmission and a turbocharged gamma - not a good powertrain!

(Unlike their smaller hybrids that are actually good enough to use and get good MPG like the Niro)

The Toyota has great efficiency, great looks, good tech - it's a better built car than the Sportage/Tucson.

Also the powertrain design is objectively better, no dry clutches, no motor disconnects, no turbo, seamless transmission,

really a marvel of Toyota engineering.

Tucson for bells and whistles. RAV4 for reliability.

If you live in snow or salted road areas, probably stay away from the RAV4 until they solve the cable problem.

Definitely Rav4. No way in the world I would even think of a Hyundai.
