Hi, everyone. 😊

My brother has an Avensis 1.8L 130hp, with a 5 speed transmission (manuel), and wanna change transmisson to a 6 speed manuel.

What needs to be done?
Could we just take the 6 speed and swap it? or is the gearbox larger?

Thanks for any reply and input. 😍

It should fit but asked to see if someone has done it on that exact year

Hi, Scotty.

Thanks for the answer.
So what you mean is that if any had it done on a 2005 Avensis?
But will it physical fit in the enginebay, and on the engine it self?

Some means the 6speed is larger, because of the extra gear.
He only wants to know, because we suspect that the transmission is broken.
So insted of replacing it with a "new" 5 speed, he will upgrad it to a 6speed, since we must change the gearbox anyway.

Thanks for any reply and advice. 🙂

My Auris has manual gearbox with 6 speeds. If you ask me, there is one gear too much since there is almost no difference in gear ratio between the 5th and 6th gear.

Hi.
What`s your rpm in 50 mph?

The point is to get the rpm to a minimum in 50mph.
Here in Norway it's the most common speed limit.

50mph or 50km/h?

50 mph, around 80 km/h.
So rpm in 6th. gear in 80km/h? 🙂

Between 2000 and 3000rpm in 5th and 6th gear when driving 90km/h. I wish 6th gear had such rpm at higher speeds, like 120 or 130km/h. When I slow down, I shift from 6th to 4th. I'd rather remove the 5th gear or find a 6th one with better gear ratio.

Well you know that lower rpm means lower fuel consumption in high gear?
So if you have, lets say 2700 in 80 in 5th, and 2000 in 6th, where do you think the car use more fuel? 🙂

But could you test it for me, what rpm you have in 80 in 6th gear?

I will do it next time I drive it. In my case it does not make any sense and difference in fuel consumption. It would if rpm in 6th were much more lower than are now. This is what I want to point out. If you can find a transmission with much better gear ratio, it can be OK.

Nice, thanks. 🙂

Well, all helps on fuel consumption, even 300 prm. 😉

2500 rpm in 5th and 2100 rpm in 6th gear at 80 km/h

Thank you so much. 🙂

You are welcome!
