I have a 2004 Ford Explorer 4.0, 4WD, 154,674mi. I had my transmission rebuilt a little over two years ago at 140,000mi. When should I change the transmission fluid and how often should I change it to ensure that it hopefully last another 140,000mi?

I'd say every 50k miles. Why was it rebuilt?

Probably rebuilt bc Ford didn't make very good transmissions back in the day. Lol.

I know Ford transmissions were problematic back in the day...the one on my Mazda has issues. I just wanted to know what issues they had for a rebuild. Torque converter, slipping, clunking, etc.

At first the transmission wouldn’t go in gear, I would have to rev up the engine for it to go into gear, I probably drove it like that for about a year until it finally went completely out.

Thanks for sharing. I wanted to know because I have a Ford tranny in my Mazda (older Mazdas used Ford components).
