Scotty what's a good cheap 1980s 2 door coupe Chevy Car? and if there isn't one then what other 80's 2 door reliable cheap cars are there besides Toyota or Honda?
Not a Chevy but probably won't bug you

What are you goals/priorities for the car? I.e. daily driver, knock around car, project car, looking to get lots of mileage out of it?
well id want it to be a daily driver and wanna get lots of mileage out of it my family had amazing luck with the caviler but everyone else says no
Daily driver + Lots of mileage. Forget anything older than 2010 or over 120k miles. Just put it out of your head.
ok? what about a project car or knock around car?
Anything can be a project car. Follow your wildest dreams. Fly a Pinto to the moon.
ok so the pinto, youre right its literaly the worst car ever made and i would be scared to death do drive it sense it's like driving a Bomb but sense you say these cavilers are such crap what are some examples of the issues they have?
It's just not a well made car . It wasn't meant to be. It's not a Cadillac. The Cavalier was an entry level car. It was literally the cheapest car that Chevy could make. It was designed to last for the 5yr warranty period. Certainly not 15 years and definitely not 20.
These cars you like are old technology. They're going to be gas hogs. They're going to require constant maintenance. If you like spending your Saturdays elbow deep in an engine then go nuts, because that's what you'll be doing if you expect to drive it every day.
did you ever own one?
An older car can be OK depending on it being a decently-made vehicle to start with and how well you maintain it. My daily driver hails from 1997 and has about 360,000 miles on it. It runs fine and uses about 1/2 quart of oil between changes (5K to 6K miles with synthetic oil). Aside from normal maintenance (oil changes) it has not needed much attention for the last few years but certainly it has required repairs in the past and will need them in the future.
The economics of old car ownership vary considerably depending on how much work you can do yourself vs. having to pay a mechanic $100/hour.

Toyota Corolla, this is the hatchback/liftback/coupe/2-door I don't know the official name.
SR5 Hatchback right? wile that would absolutely work I cant find any for sale
WOW a 2 door camry Hell yea
It is a XV10 2 door coupe Camry!
Awsome, i still like the caviler look better but close enough
i mean the 80s cavalier if you look up the 1990 Cavalier thats the style of car i want i preffer a 2 dr butit can be a 4dr if it has that style
yes exacly
Personally my favorite late 80s early 90s car is the 93 94 or so Nissan Maxima, my parents owned one they are screaming cars and if you get one for like 1500 bucks or something and you take care of it it could be a good knock around car.
ok ok what about the toyota MR2?
i think im gonna chance it with the Cavalier
good luck then.
well ok im having 2nd thoughts, are the engines reliable? most of the complaints i found were about the interior mostly dash cracking and noisy breaks
Any 40 year old car will have some mechanical issues.
no i mean the 2002 model EchoTec engine
I heard that Scotty put those in one of the worst engines ever made that was made during the time GM owned Opel and made was it complicated but as always if you were to maintain it then it could be ok for a while. Most issues come up because Americans don't maintain their cars well.
That engine is the same one manufactured in Germany and used in the Vauxhaul Astra, which is known to be absolute junk in Europe. But hey if you don't wear it out it could be a German masterpiece.
The 1985 to 1988 Chevrolet Nova is the best quality GM car of the 1980s! Why? It was basically a rebadged Toyota Corolla. It’s unfortunate it same only in a four door or five door model.
I would get a nice Nissan Z car of the 1980s and put GM badges of your choice on that
so what about a project car? a Pontiac Fiero Maybe?
the 1 GM Car that my family hated was the 1987 Pontiac Grand Am, my dad had one as his 1st car and it was given to him but he had to pay to fix the transmission that had broke and then about 6 months later it broke again, so with that being said that car I will say is total crap and the reason I like the old cavilers is they look awesome and my family has had old and new one's. I wish they made more cars like that that were reliable and, had that style and were more modern
