How do I fix 07 Accord poor shifting

2007 Honda Accord 4 cylinder engine

  • Automatic transmission

Transmission shifts hard at random occasions.  Sometimes when I'm going 30mph. Down the street and again when I'm driving at highway speeds. Also, it sometimes doesn't shift to higher gears on the highway.  I read this means that the fluid is no good and needs to be replaced but then  I see on videos if I change the fluid on a Honda, The transmission will lock up and need to be replaced. Any idea which is it?

Thank You

Please provide the number of miles on the vehicle. Thank you.

At the moment 120,634 miles, bought it used at 78 thousand miles. Don't know if fluid has been changed before...

Did you look at the fluid? Is there enough? What is the condition?

Did you check the ATF topic in our Frequently Asked Questions?

When this started, I checked the fluid and it was low for some reason. I got fluid from the dealership and it worked normal for awhile but then this problem again. The fluid was red but now its starting to change in between red/brown.

I have checked ATF Topic in FAQ. Vehicle runs fine, just shifts hard at random times, I'm trying to fix if I can before replacing all of it 😨😱

Transmissions are pretty complex devices. You can try asking a transmission specialist if they have any ideas, but most likely the tranny has to be pulled out. On a 13yr old vehicle, it may not be worth your while. If you decide to drive it into the ground, then sure you can try changing the fluid. It might help a little bit. There are also additives that work for some people. Just don't expect miracles, and expect that the transmission will just get worse from here, unfortunately.
