Replace the heads.

Still working on the 1998 Ford Ranger V 6 4.0. I have some tapping from the pushrods which is common for these engines. I'm thinking about replacing the entire head rather than just the pushrods and the rockers. Has anyone done this or have experience with this engine and its problems? I had a short block installed about 30,000 miles ago so I'm think the top needs some love now also.

How many miles on the original head?  If you're going to get the head rebuilt, I recommend ARP studs instead of head bolts.  At least with a rebuilt head, you can get the geometry of the rockers, pushrods, etc., back to specifications.  Check your cam too and see if it's rounded over.

It has just short of 240,000 miles.
