Replace transmission on 2004 Rav4 OR sell and upgrade?

Hi. Here's the situation:  I have a 2004 Rav4 with 162,000 miles on it. Bought it from original owner in 2021. Front smashed from an accident, but it was just body damage, so I paid $3000 for the car, another $3000 for the body work. Love it. That said, I've put a lot of money into it in the last 3.5 years to keep it in good shape. I'm at that critical point of asking if I should sell it and put some money toward another Toyota with lower gas mileage, or possibly just go ahead and replace the transmission and that way keep a car i actually like and have no problems with. Here is the main consideration:  I need a car I can drive A LOT, like, all over the country, to road gigs. I'm scared something will happen to it on the road. It would be a great car for a local commuter. No issues, even with the transmission, at this point. Other than the transmission fluid is filthy because the previous owner was a ding-dong and probable never had it done. So my mechanic said its not worth flushing it cuz it might cause other problems. So, do I keep the RAV4 or get a later model Corolla or maybe RAV4?   NOT NEW. Can afford  about $15, 000, but would be happy to spend half that to fix what i have. HELP!!!  And THANKS!

A car over 2 decades old is not the best choice for that.
