Replacement 5.4L 3V Ford V-8

Scotty, I have a 2010 F-150 that is just about to reach 300,000 miles with the original 5.4L 3V DOHC V-8.  I've just now had to have the transmission rebuilt, it was the original as well 6R80 that went 299,500 miles.  What is your recommendation to buy a crate remanufactured engine?  Which reman company has the best reman 5.4L3V engine?  Should I buy an engine from Ford directly?

buy a crate remanufactured engine?

If engine replacement is the route you want to take, then yes. But it depends on the rest of the truck. (cosmetic and mechanical condition, rust situation, etc.). Did you price it out? I'm guessing it's going to be in the ballpark of $8k. Is your 16 year old 1/2 ton truck worth investing that much into?  If you only had the trans rebuilt and not remanufactured, I wouldn't put that much trust into it for very long.

In the USA, I've always heard good things about Powertrain Products and Jasper. But you'll have to talk to your local shop or whoever is going to install it, because it's up to them who they deal with. They may have their preferred vendors for which they provide labour warranty.

In all likelihood, Ford is buying their replacement engines from the same vendors that private shops are. Except they'll add MUCH more markup.
