Did I buy a good battery

Hey scotty, i have a 2019 honda civic lx cvt 2.0 liter with almost 50,000 miles on it. I am the original owner of the vehicle. I recently put a Platinum Die Hard AGM battery that cost $250 in the car because the original dealership battery finally died on me. Did i make the right choice in getting a Die Hard battery that was sold at Advance Auto Parts or should i have gotten an autozone battery? Are die hard batteries reliable? I just checked my die hard battery with my battery tester and it showed my SOH at 98% overall health and my SOC at 87% the battery was manufactured in November 2023.

Are walmart batteries reliable enough that they will last 4-5 years like my original dealership battery?

I have 2 Everstart Maxx batteries from Walmart, each one is currently over 5 years old, so yes.

@akroeker1 Interestingly the Everstart Maxx (Walmart) battery in my 2004 Avalon died this morning after 5 years and 10 months of service.

@avalon04 "Rumor has it" they insert a small 6 year, time-released, sulfate capsule in each Everstart 😁

@hixster Hey, nothing would surprise me anymore! (though I understand you are kidding)

You will most likely find they came out of the same factory and are pretty much the same internally.

Are die hard batteries reliable?

"Die Hard" is just an ancient brand name that was bought out from the dying embers of Sears. Only a handful of companies actually manufacture car batteries.

Could i have gotten away with buying a walmart lead acid battery like everstart maxx? Are walmart batteries reliable enough that they will last 4-5 years like my original dealership battery?

Possibly. WalMart batteries are likely coming from the same factories as AutoZone, Advance, etc. They're all relabeled from a handful of actual manufacturers. I've used WalMart batteries and they've been OK.

Almost all batteries these days are made by the same manufacturers, they just slap different names on them. Walmart batteries are pretty awesome. I have a '79 Catalina, the fuel pump had gone out. I attempted to restart it so many times over around 3 hours, the battery died. That was over 18 months ago and it's still hasn't skipped a beat.
