Reverse light always ON Honda Accord 2009

Here's the wiring diagram. I highlighted the Automatic Transmission back up lights circuit. Power is Red and Ground is Green.

When the Key is in ON or Start, Power comes from the Passenger Compartment Fuse Box through fuse 5 to both the Load Side and Control Side of the Back Up Light Relay.

When shifted into Reverse, the Transmission Range Switch's internal reverse circuit switch contacts close and provides a path to Ground for the Back Up Light Relay Control Coil and the relay is energized and the Back Up Lights get power.

Since the lights are always on either the:

Transmission Range Switch is faulty.(use a test light to check)

The wire that goes between the Back Up Light Relay (control) and the Transmission Range Switch is shorted to Ground. (use a test light to check)

The Back Up Light Relay has failed. (It looks like it's a PCB Relay ((soldered onto the printed circuit board and non-serviceable. I put a Blue oval around it in the wiring diagram)) but you could bypass it if you had to.

P0705 PO966 is showing

Once I put reverse gear showing VSA and exclamation sign after once put park gear and restart car parking light is there but VSA and exclamation sign gone and all gears fine

Please guide if any good wiring technician available in Houston

With that P0705 code it's likely the reason for your reverse lights staying on is a faulty Transmission Range Sensor (you don't need a specialist to replace that)

After replacement sensor same issue I think some cable issue please guide if any wiring technician in Houston

Kindly suggest any electrician

Can anyone share the picture where is reverse light switch located shall I disconnect connector and check

It's on the Transmission End Cover on the lower Driver's side of the transmission.

To get a better view, here's the transmission removed. The end of the transmission that attaches to the engine is facing down. The driver's side of the transmission is facing up.

You can see the plastic Transmission Range Switch Cover and the Transmission Range Switch (sensor).

Here's the transmission range switch connector. You see that Pin 10 is the ground.

If you look at the lower right of the wiring diagram I posted in my original response above, you see the back up light circuit of the Transmission Range Switch ((this part))

Pin 7 is for the Back Up Light Relay control circuit. When you put the transmission in reverse continuity is created in the transmission range switch between Pin 10 (Ground) and Pin 7 (Back Up Light Relay control coil) and the Back Up Light Relay is energized and the back up lights turn on.

On the Accords it looks like they remove the front tire and remove the plastic wheel liner to get access to the Transmission Range Switch.

If you disconnect it and the back up lights turn off then it's probably a faulty switch

Please suggest electrician

Checking the switch that operates the lights would be a good place to start.

Reverse light switch ?

@khan - Yes, of course there's a switch that activates the lights. Looks like @jack62 found it for you as well as some other items to check.

Hello all.
Can anyone tell nay the multi purpose relay Accord 2009 because now scanner showing relay issue

You can kill the ECU's KAM (Keep Alive Memory) by disconnecting the battery, go inside and have lunch, and then reconnect the battery

I did the same but errors are still there

which "errors?"

R light always ON D is blinking

You can't fix that by clearing the KAM. You have trouble codes stored in the Transmission Control Module.

Check your transmission fluid level
.
If it's OK you need to find someone with a scanner which can do a full system scan to retrieve the trouble codes in the TCM
.
That will pinpoint the problem

As per scanner report it's saying change multi purpose relay .p1659 P0706 p0966

Have you checked the factory shop manual?

Does your Honda start and run? Please give us as much info as you can like all symptoms, engine size (4 cyl or 6 cyl), auto trans or manual trans, this stuff matters when we search wiring diagrams.

I'd assume with those 3 codes you previously mentioned that there may be a problem with the PGM-FI main relay ((R3)) or the ETCS relay ((R6) or with fuse 17 or 18

Make Honda Accord
4 Cylinder
Auto trans
Working fine but on dash board R light always ON and D is blinking

Please guide me where I can buy these relays

If it's running fine then it's not those relays or fuses.
