I have a new 2020 Toyota Tacoma TDR Off Road that the dealership installed OEM roof racks on. Turns our they were leaking, it took me a few months to realize this as the water was coming into the cab from the rear seatbelts and dripping down the siding and onto the seats. The dealership fixed it after 2 visits, but should I be worried about rusting or any other damage that this may cause. I’m hoping to keep this truck for 20-30 years. Thank you!
Rust is caused by salt, not plain water. I would be more concerned with mold honestly. Mold is deadly. I would suggest putting a dehumidifier in your car overnight for a day or 2, anything that's wet will dry out.
Good to know, thank you. This was before the summer and I haven’t noticed any mold, so it sounds like I should be in the clear.
Not true. Rust only requires water and air. However, if the source of moisture is cut off, and the area stays dry, then you don't need to worry.
The leak was there for a few months before I realized and was able to get it fixed, with trips through the wash about once a week
If its fixed already then you should not worry about any future problems. Are your seats soaked?
Great; and no, it was just some drips on the seat that I originally thought blew in (somehow) when I opened the door; I caught on that it couldn’t always be happening every time I opened the rear doors and noticed drips coming out of the seatbelt area and running down the plastic siding
