Rough idle when dipstick is pulled out in Chevy Ecotec 1.4 turbo engine

Hi Scotty,

My chevy Trax TJ 1.4 turbo (year 2020) has only 21300 miles on it. It seems to idle ok, but when I pull the dipstick out, it idles rough and the engine wants to stall. I changed the valve cover and intake manifold but the fault is still there. Also, the revs wont pass 3000 when parked (I guess it's because  the car is in limp mode). No codes from the OBDII.

I would appreciate the help.

Cheers

Are you sure that's a fault? When you do that you're creating a leak in the sealed PCV system.

I changed the valve cover and intake manifold

Did troubleshooting find any leaks in those parts before replacement?

No codes from the OBDII.

What about live data? Pulling codes is just the bare beginning of the diagnostic process.

there must trouble codes for the car to be in limp mode.

Some modern cars won't let you revv the heck out of the engine when the car is in park or neutral. Sometimes, dumb people do this in older cars and refer to it as a "neutral drop." Doing this can easily destroy the transmission. Engineers have one-upped certain people's stupidity by preventing excessive revving while in park or neutral.

What is it doing that concerns you? It's probably too early to have replaced a valve cover gasket. You'll know when it's time to replace that gasket, you'll develop an oil leak when the rubber becomes brittle and breaks.
