Good afternoon, Scotty. I hope you don't get mad at me. But I really need some guidance from here. You see, these past few days, driving our 2021 Ford Ranger, the one I mentioned those days, we've been feeling a jolt when shifting into second gear, then it resumes normal. If you ask me about the ATF, I did end up changing it, but everything was fine until now. First of all, what could it be? (I search and it tells me it could be many things) I'm definitely going to take it to the Honda dealer where I bought it and have them do whatever they need to. I'm paying insurance for it, and they're responsible for the repairs.
You guys sound like the worst things in life have happen to me.
There are certainly worse things in life, but the fact is those 10-speed transmissions have a lot of problems and there does not seem to be a fix for them - and they are the subject of class-action lawsuits both in the U.S. and Canada.
@chucktobias They're not the best cars in the world. From the beginning, we've always wanted a Tacoma or Rigeline, but we can't afford one. We already took it to the dealer to have it checked out. I was wondering what "lemon law" is and finding someone to get compensation for that year's Ford vehicle. You know: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Ford/Ranger/2021/ Do you think that would be a good idea?
Lemon laws vary by state but they usually apply only to new cars. Since you bought this at a Honda dealer presumably it was purchased used. Check your state laws.
@chucktobias I will have to see since a help is a help. Thank you
We need the miles on the odometer per the posting instructions please. Any powertrain warranty?
@imperator, yes, we buy a 2-year warranty. The miles right now is 78,072. We changed the fluid when it was like 68,000s I think.
@imperator That thing has the GM-Ford 10-speed automatic transmission (the 10R80). Almost anything could be wrong with it, unfortunately. That transmission has been nothing short of a total disaster.
Justin is right. The 2019 - 2023 Rangers use the cursed 10R80 transmission , for which Ford is being sued because it is plagued with unresolved problems. (you can search for it .. it's all over the internet). These things really need to be researched BEFORE buying a vehicle. It's a lemon unfortunately. I might be best to sell it while it still mostly works.
@chucktobias nonetheless, he already has it, and it costs him nothing to claim it. That should be step #1.
Just setting expectations. Maybe he'll get lucky and not have a problem, or might think twice about buying such a warranty next time.
Make sure the transmission fluid is full . Run a diagnostic scan . And ask Ford for all the service bulletins pertaining to your vehicle. Also look up your vehicle on nhtsa.gov
@imperator Also Mount, I found the bullentin: https://www.ford.com/support/service-information/. After you put the car information and you click I agree, After entering all of that, you'll see information about the vehicle as "Change vehicle
2019-2023 Ranger - Harsh/Delayed Engagement And/Or Harsh/Delayed Shift - Built On Or Before 15-Aug-2022" and when you click on it, all the information will appear.
I've been a Ford person since I was a kid; only two of my cars have been makes other than Ford. I had a BMW and an HHR at one point. I will not be buying any recent Ford products. The GM-Ford 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission is a disaster, and Ford can't get fuel injectors right. The Bronco Sport and Escape had issues with protentially cracking fuel injectors. Rather than admitting they screwed up and replacing injectors, Ford put out a recall to put software into the car to detect fuel leaks. Then, they screwed that up. Stay away from relatively recent Fords if you value your money (maybe your life as well, Ford doesn't seem bothered by fuel leaks enough to recall injectors and replace them).
Just adding insult to injury, engineers at Ford didn't care that the Dual Clutch Automatic Transmissions they were installing in the Ford Focus were defective from the factory. Ford Quality Control is non-existent, and that is putting it lightly.
@justin-shepherd We know the only good guys hire, and it's Toyota and Honda (at most), but you have to see how expensive they are right now! They probably are a better car, but they will have you as a slave to work. That the only thing I don't like about this country that is the problem you have with cars. By the way, thenk you very much for all this ideas.
Also, you to call ford and ask them about service bulletin.
You can find TSBs and recalls in the links below:

A VIN search at NHTSA might be more up-to-date as far as recalls are concerned:
Wait, don't your remember of that problem about a a 2021 Ford Ranger 10 speed automatic like two weeks ago?
You're kidding, right? (Maybe but there's no "smiley".) This board has had over 65,000 members sign up making nearly 310,000 posts. Everyone here is a volunteer donating their free time when it is available. Do you really expect us to remember or search out details from a topic posted weeks ago?
Please bear in mind the posting instructions at the top of the page. Thank you.

What are you referring to?
@chucktobias What I mean if the dealership does something wrong in the fixing. But I hope everything goes well. For now, just waiting. Thanks you.
What's missing is what the details of the problem are, why insurance is involved, what the transmission issue is, what the "last posts" are that you're referring to, etc.
@chucktobias Wait, don't your remember of that problem about a a 2021 Ford Ranger 10 speed automatic like two weeks ago?
So the Warranty pay is every cent and a new tranny came out. Now taking it to home, when I go from P to D, yesterday it shake and it sounds like clunch like something was roast.
You're very fortunate that the warranty actually paid, but what did they pay for? Factory remanufactured transmission? Dealer repair? Used transmission? What was actually done?
Also as has already been explained your vehicle has the terrible, inherently faulty 10R80 transmission which is the subject of a class-action lawsuit, so it may never be completely right.
I suspect the Dealership did something wrong. We are going to take it again. Should we file a complaint in case we find something?
Who would you file a complaint with? If the problem is the result of the dealership doing something wrong make them correct it. As has been pointed out those are bad transmissions to begin with, but perhaps the dealer can do something to make its performance more acceptable.
@chucktobias A new transmission, they showed us up the trany when they were taking it out the old one. Of course they have to be responsible for it.
You guys sound like the worst things in life have happen to me. I would see what can I do because all those steps you are telling means I need to give money. Also, you to call ford and ask them about service bulletin.
@nimitz making the wrong purchase decisions always leads to paying more money in the end. It’s better to pay a little more up front.
I just wanted to say that everything has gone well so far in one sense with the Ford Ranger. The insurance paid every penny, thank God. Now the problem is that they're taking too long to fix it. The new transmission arrived four days ago, and yesterday if when they started disassembling it. Reading the lasts posts, I'd like to be ready in case they mess up the job or something else. What do you advise? Also, it would be good to trade it for another car? (there are like two Rav4s here, although I think I'll lose what I gave).
I am very sorry for that. And yes I know you guys take of your time for helping us and I really honestly we my heart appreciate it.
@nimitz please keep everything together, not spread out over multiple topics so we have to hunt for it.
@chucktobias could you merge the topics please.
Thank you.
@imperator Will do, I didn't catch that this was a question related to the original topic, thought it was a new question. Just have to find the old topic...
(Edit: I think this is it.)
Good Morning to all of you. Let me tell you how everything end up. So the Warranty pay is every cent and a new tranny came out. Now taking it to home, when I go from P to D, yesterday it shake and it sounds like clunch like something was roast. I suspect the Dealership did something wrong. We are going to take it again. Should we file a complaint in case we find something?
Good afternoon to everyone! Do you think I can continue talking about how all went?
@nimitz No problem, just keep all the information about the problem under this topic.
So what happened was that the truck was taken to the experts at Ford, and they reprogrammed it and did finishing all the wrong . They tested it, and now everything seems to be fine. We want to see it and test drive it on the road for a while to see what happens. If everything is fine, we'd like to trade it in for a 2017 Rav4 or a 2019 Passport Lite that they have there. I don't know which would be a better option, but the Passport is the one that comes closest to the Ranger's capabilities. What do you think?
@nimitz I'm personally not familiar with those vehicles but you can find out inherent problems with them via a quick internet search. You can also check out Scotty's car reviews near the bottom of the main page.
Of course being used vehicles you would need a good mechanic to thoroughly inspect them BEFORE purchase. If you want to ask questions about those particular vehicles that would qualify as something that should be posted as a new topic but you may want to do a little research on your own first to narrow down the points you would want clarified.
