I’m thinking of purchasing a Lexus GX470 2004. Has 275,000 miles $7999 looks very clean on the website I asked about the undercarriage and was told it had been rusty but It had been under coated recently. My question is will this stop the rust or only slow it down?
The rust proofing probably just covered up the existing rust. $8k for a 275,000 mile car? You cannot be serious.
The undercoating can make the rust worse by trapping moisture, especially if it was inexpertly applied.
That's a terrible deal. Don't give it a second thought.
Also, undercoating = hiding bad rust
I'm with @doc and @chucktobias on this one. Rust mitigation is fraught with peril. For a buyer, the problem is that it wil be near impossible for you to really inspect it properly. I'd keep looking.
