I have a 1998 buick century ,I cleaned recently my brakes with brakleen and I saw some rust on the front rotors , let's say at the center of the disk .. is that bad ? should I change the rotors or can I keep driving with those ?
thanks ./
The rotors always rust. As long as it does not affect how it brakes, you are fine.
If you’d like to add a picture we might be able to tell if it’s anything unusual. Otherwise, I’m with Yaser, it sounds normal. Like the first mate in “Titanic” said, “She’s made of iron. I assure you, she can rust.”
The rotors are bare cast iron so if there's any humidity or moisture they'll acquire a light surface rust pretty quickly. That surface rust is wiped clean when you use the brakes. Not a problem unless a car is left sitting in a wet environment long enough that it progresses to deep rust with chunks of metal falling off.
I suggest you take a look at everybody else's rotors
Here in the Northeast by the coast all I see are rusty rotors.
