RX7 FD opinions

Hi Scotty and team, It's getting closer to the time where I can buy my dream car, the RX7 FD (forgive me). I was just curious to see what you think of these cars? I'm considering getting an rx8 before the real deal just to get more of a rotary idea. What do you all think? Thanks!

The rotary engines were never as reliable as their conventional counterparts. They are famous for failures and also for drinking oil.

I understand wanting an RX-7. I personally like them very, very much as well as the RX-8. But to buy one knowing the engine will have problems and will be expensive to repair....I couldn't do it.

I have no experience on anything but 1st gen Rx7s.   I had flooding issues (bad carb), loss of engine compression due to bad carb, hydraulic clutch issues (bad slave and master cylinder, replaced those many times probably due to bad lines), and for some reason the rear disc brake pads had a tendency to fall out at low speeds.

All that being said, if I could find one in really good shape and reasonably priced, I'd be tempted to get another.  I'm older now so I usually don't fall into temptation, but you never know 🙂

I don't know if that helps you or not, but my opinion is that if you can find one that is not almost destroyed due to racing, is not crazily priced, AND you don't plan on it being a daily driver I'd say go for it.  But if it has weird quirks like my 1st gen ones expect to work on it and have weird problems.
